Hi, Guys! Ann here again to share a tip with you.

Simple Syrup: A baker’s secret weapon.

What is Simple Syrup? It’s a solution comprised of equal parts of water and sugar.

What does Simple Syrup do?

It helps keep your cake moist, enhances the flavor, and helps crumb fallout when applying buttercream to your cake.

Of course, simple syrup does not apply to all cakes, but if you plan on adding a layer or two of buttercream to a cake or cupcake, give Simple Syrup a try!

Think of simple syrup as you would a moisturizer. Keeps the skin from becoming dry, right? Same way with simple syrup! And for cakes, it also cuts down on crumbs fallout which helps during the decorating process.

Simple Syrup received this name because the recipe is simple: a 1:1 ratio of water and sugar. Some people choose to add different extracts and that’s perfectly fine.

You can make simple syrup on the stove using a medium-sized pot. Once the sugar is dissolved, allow cooling before transferring to a container like a mason jar. From there you can use a pastry brush to apply the syrup to your cake or cupcake.

You don’t need to use a lot of simple syrup for your cake. Anywhere from 1 to 4 tablespoons of Simple Syrup will do the trick depending on the size of your cake.

Allow at least 5 minutes before beginning the decoration process. Not planning to decorate right away? No problem! Just wrap the cake in plastic wrap and stick it in the fridge until you’re ready.

BONUS TIP* Simple Syrup will keep in the refrigerator for a month, you can also add Simple Syrup to cocktails!
